To get official approval, WhatsApp will comply with India’s data localization rules, which make the company store payment-related data of users on the local server. So WhatsApp has assured the RBI and the NPCI to follow this rule. Besides, it will be based on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) system used by millions of peoples in India.
According to reports, it will rollout for full countrywide, initially targeted around 10 million users. As we all know, WhatsApp has a strong 400 million users in India as of July 2019. So, it will be very useful for them, but have strong competitors like Google Pay, Paytm, and PhonePe
