Providing EarPods in the box is a tradition since the first iPhone in 2007, as basically, it was an iPod in which we can make phone calls. And now it might be the time to bid farewell for the EarPods included in the box.
According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 12 series may not ship with EarPods included in the box. This decision can be for increasing Apple’s sale of AirPods. Kuo also mentions that we can expect a special promotion for Apple’s truly wireless earphones in the second half of 2020.
Ditching EarPods: Is it justified?
It can be due to the ongoing global pandemic, which brought down the overall sales of consumer products, which has also affected the sales of Apple. The Q2 2020 sales of AirPods are down by 29% from the previous quarter to 17.2 million. However, there is an increase in interest for the AirPods at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. And that coupled with the demand for AirPods Pro and the expected promotional offer can give a spike in sales for Apple.

Kuo has previously said in his note to investors that Apple is working on the third generation of AirPods. Still, it won’t be sporting any external changes rather some internal improvements. And it is expected to go onto mass production in the first half of 2021.
There have been previous rumours referring to an AirPods update in 2020. Leaker Jon Proser has said recently that the third generation AirPods are ready to launch any time. Kuo also acknowledges that and has stated the market is expecting a new AirPods model, but it is very likely to be a set of Beats.
